Launching on March 8 in honor of International Women’s Day, Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, Volume 2: Women of the Mojave arrives as a powerful tribute to the women shaping creative life across California’s Hi‑Desert. The new volume—created by author and creative director Lisa Schyck, with photography by Bill Leigh Brewer and essays by Zara Kand—profiles 16 women whose lives and work reflect resilience, reinvention, and the transformative pull of the Mojave. More than a photography book, the project is a celebration of women who have chosen intentional, purpose‑driven living in a landscape that demands presence, clarity, and courage.
Timed deliberately with International Women’s Day, the release underscores the global call to uplift women’s voices, stories, and creative contributions. The women featured—artists, educators, healers, nonprofit founders, entrepreneurs, mothers, and community leaders—represent a cross‑section of the modern desert pioneer. Through intimate portraits of their homes, studios, and daily rituals, the book explores how the Mojave shapes identity and artistic expression, offering space for recovery, reinvention, and authentic living.
Schyck’s own journey of transformation anchors the project. A woman in long‑term recovery, she found in Joshua Tree a community of women redefining success on their own terms. The book positions the desert not as a backdrop but as an active force—one that challenges, heals, and inspires. “There is room to be quiet, fully present, and to live more authentically,” Schyck says. “For the women in this book, the Mojave was not just a place to land, it was a place that allowed them to become the truest version of themselves.”
To extend the book’s impact, a portion of proceeds from Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream (Volumes 1 & 2) will be donated to individuals and organizations throughout the High Desert, reinforcing the project’s commitment to community support.
A series of immersive exhibitions will accompany the launch throughout March in California and Detroit, featuring photography, video interviews, sound design, and live storytelling by Schyck. These events deepen the book’s themes of creativity, healing, and women’s lived experiences—further aligning the project with the spirit of International Women’s Day:
