There’s no “Guinness Book of World Records” category for this, but I think I would have won as ‘the older person ever to attend a Splash House After Party’ at the Palm Springs Air Museum.
At least I felt like the oldest one.
A friend had wanted to see The Chainsmokers. We play them on KGAY and I love their music. So I requested press credentials and we were set. Until the set times were published. As the headliner, they were to go on stage at 12:30 – AM! So we made our way onto the shuttle bus after a nap (which would usually have been bedtime).
The show was amazing with the Air Museum packed in the August heat. Thousands of very young and very inebriated fans were dancing and singing along. The day after Splash House I was feeling my age for being up so late and missing the sleep my body needs.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my age lately. At nearly 68, I’m fortunate to still have both parents alive. Having visited them last weekend and seeing their struggles, I know what lies ahead. Dad is 21 years older; mom some 19 years older than me. They were young parents. But they are now struggling to keep their independence and still live at home. Only one can drive. Technology baffles and confuses. Keeping their meds straight is nearly a full time job it seems. That train is coming down the tracks whether I like it or not.
I still keep a crazy busy schedule and I think it keeps me young. So if you see me not acting my age, you’ll know why. I may make it another twenty-plus years, so this is the time to still savor experiences while I’m able. I know that every day counts; every connection is important. And sleep is over-rated.
