Chief Andy Mills and Cathy Mills have been honored with The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert’s inaugural Allies Award, recognizing their exceptional commitment to Palm Springs’ LGBTQ+ community as they prepare to leave the city following Chief Mills’ retirement in September. Since arriving in 2021, the couple has become deeply woven into the fabric of local life — from Andy’s community‑centered leadership as Chief of Police to their visible support of organizations, causes, and events, including serving as co‑chairs of The Center’s Center Stage gala. During the award presentation at The Center’s McDonald/Wright Building, CEO Mike Thompson praised the couple for building trust, fostering belonging, and strengthening the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and the Palm Springs Police Department. As they relocate to the Sacramento area, Andy and Cathy leave behind a legacy defined by compassion, allyship, and unwavering love for the community that embraced them.
