On this episode of Life After News, Jason sits down with Palm Springs resident and longtime news exec turned local journalism champion Randy Lovely, and yes, it’s also a love letter to our desert.
Randy shares how he and his husband met the old-fashioned way across a crowded bar at Hunters in 2000 (no apps, just eye contact and a great playlist). They fell in love, built careers elsewhere, and then spent 17 years plotting their return to the place that always felt like home.
- Now they’re back in Palm Springs for good, soaking up the sunshine, and leaning into everything that makes this city special:
- Small-town feel with big-city culture: theater, museums, Palm Springs Cultural Center
- A thriving, welcoming LGBTQ+ community where you can still walk into a room and meet someone new
- A deeply generous valley that shows up for nonprofits, neighbors, and local journalism
Randy also talks about leading the Coachella Valley Journalism Foundation, working to make sure our desert never becomes a “news desert” supporting outlets like the Desert Sun, KESQ, Palm Springs Post, Indio Post and more, so our stories actually get told.
