Palm Springs is taking a major step toward strengthening community well‑being with the launch of PSPD Connect, a new program designed to help older adults, socially isolated residents, and individuals who may benefit from additional support stay safe, connected, and cared for. Beginning October 19, 2026, the initiative reflects a shared vision championed by Councilmember Grace Garner, Police Chief Kyle Stjerne, and the Blue Zones Project, bringing together public safety and community wellness in a way Palm Springs has never formally structured before.
At its core, PSPD Connect expands the role of the Palm Springs Police Department beyond traditional law enforcement. The program offers scheduled wellness calls from PSPD personnel or trained volunteers, giving participants regular contact, reassurance, and access to community resources. Residents choose their preferred call schedule, and if a call is missed, PSPD follows a clear welfare‑check process—contacting emergency contacts when appropriate or dispatching officers to ensure the participant’s safety.
The initiative is built around three guiding principles: Safety, Connection, and Community. It aims to reduce social isolation, strengthen relationships between residents and public safety personnel, and provide families with peace of mind. The program is free, voluntary, and open to anyone who may benefit from regular check‑ins, including older adults, homebound residents, and those with limited local support.
Councilmember Garner, Chief Stjerne, and the Blue Zones Project have been instrumental in shaping PSPD Connect, emphasizing that public safety includes proactive care—not just emergency response. Their collaboration demonstrates how city leadership, law enforcement, and community wellness organizations can work together to create meaningful, human‑centered services.
The program also encourages neighbors, caregivers, and family members to help identify residents who may benefit from participation. As Palm Springs continues to expand innovative community programs, PSPD Connect stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to ensuring that every resident feels valued, supported, and connected.
