East Coachella Valley Pride reaches a milestone this October, celebrating 10 years of community‑led LGBTQ+ visibility, culture, and connection across the eastern valley. What began as youth‑driven advocacy has grown into a week of events honoring the people, organizations, and young leaders who shaped a decade of progress. Supported by The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, this year’s celebration blends reflection, resources, and forward‑looking conversations, culminating in a vibrant community festival in downtown Coachella.
The week opens on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 pm with Bienestar para Todes: Juntos por la Salud LGBTQ+ at the Coachella Public Library, an evening dedicated to LGBTQ+ health and wellness. Local organizations and speakers will highlight services available throughout the East Coachella Valley, offering residents a chance to learn, connect, and access support.
On Thursday, Oct. 22 at 5:30 pm, 10 Years of YPAR: From Youth Voices to Lasting Impact takes place at The Center Coachella. This gathering reunites student researchers and community leaders involved in the 2016 Youth Participatory Action Research project, which surveyed more than 600 local teens and helped identify the need for affirming spaces and resources. Their findings directly inspired the creation of East Coachella Valley Pride and The Center Coachella. A decade later, the conversation turns toward what the next generation of community‑building can look like.
The celebration culminates on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 3–8 pm with the Tenth Annual East Coachella Valley Pride Festival at Coachella Library Park and Garden. This free, family‑friendly event features performances and art by local queer artists, food vendors, and community organizations sharing resources. What started as a visibility effort has grown into a beloved regional celebration, drawing residents from across the valley to honor identity, culture, and collective strength.
