As we learn from her official bio, Kate Ullman is…

“…An extraordinary lesbian who seems to have thing about hats, many hats!

Kate grew up in New York City pursuing a career in theatre and as a child model while later attended the University of Miami in Florida. On her way to California she stopped off at Cherry Grove for the summer; she was one of the first women to work on Fire Island! Eventually Kate moved to San Francisco and began designing outrageous hippie jewelry for some of the best department stores in the City and across the country.

Having a strong passion for beautiful things Kate’s world unfolded into antiques. She became a regular seller at the famous Marin Swap Meet in Sausalito and, moving further into that arena, antique shows seemed a natural progression. Eventually, she opened the “Schlep Sisters” a well-known store in the Castro on 18th at Diamond for many years. In 1999 Katemoved to the desert continuing her passion for fine workmanship handling some of the best, and most organized, estate sales throughout the desert through her company aptly called, “Everything Goes!”.

Kate rekindled her appetite for theatre bringing improv to throughout the Coachella Valley. Kate is the founding member of the performing group, “The Improvables.”  Teaching improv at the LGBT Community Center of the Desert brought Kate and the troupe to perform a sold out benefit for the Center at the Desert Rose theatre in Rancho Mirage this past September.

The Improvables

Her passion for Women’s Rights, as well as the Rights of Lesbian and Gays, found her at the heart of many powerful events. This year she is the driving force bringing the Dyke March to Palm Springs Pride 2015 for the first time. Her personal pride – she is one of the creators of “The L Fund,” bringing together a  group of dedicated lesbians providing financial support to lesbians in need. Kate’s most recent endeavor is PS Singles Mingle creating community for single women in the Valley meeting through monthly social events.”

Kate says, “PS I love you because…”

  1. …the ever-changing colors of the mountains take my breath away.
  2. …I am living in the palm of God, nurturing mind, body and Spirit.
  3. of our diverse Pride community.
  4. we are living in extraordinary innovative and changing times in Palm Springs.
  5. we don’t have parking meters.

Kate, it's been a great pleasure getting to know you from one event to the next…  Thanks for all you do everyone in our valley, and for being the power lesbian that you are!  If I had a hat, I'd definitely take it off to you!

xoxo
