The Mountaintop
Dezart Performs presents The Mountaintop, the 2010 Olivier Award Winner for Best Play by Katori Hall, from March 4–13 at the Pearl McManus Theater. A re-imagined depiction of Martin Luther King Jr.’s last night on earth, the play is set entirely in Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel on the eve of his assassination in 1968. After delivering his famous “I’ve been to the mountaintop” speech, King goes to the Lorraine Motel to rest. His world is spun on his axis when he meets Camae, a young, feisty and foul-mouthed maid, who delivers his room service. Get tickets
Rainbow Challenge 2022
Love Golf? The Stonewall Golfers 21st Annual Rainbow Challenge is back and happening at the Classic Club on Sunday and Monday, March 6 & 7. The Classic Club was recently renovated to make it more player friendly: New forward tees, a softening of sand traps with some removed and the remaining filled with new sand; and some out-of-bound brush replaced with grass. New Farmers’ Market in Indio
A new weekly Certified Farmers’ Market in downtown Indio runs on Sundays from 9 am–2 pm. Certified produce, fresh hot and cold chef-prepared foods, artisan crafts such as handmade wood and leather gifts, stationery, soap, jewelry, candles and other crafted items are available from October through May. Canceled: Tejano Music Festival
The 4th Annual Tejano Music Fest in Cathedral City, scheduled for Saturday March 5, from 5–11 pm at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater, has been canceled due to high winds. The organizers will converse with the scheduled performers on Monday to determine whether to cancel the festival for the year and refund all tickets or reschedule the festival for a mutually agreeable date later this year. Herb Tucker is a struggling Hollywood screenwriter suffering from writer’s block. To make matters worse, his forgotten past just showed up on his doorstep in the form of Libby, his young teenage daughter he abandoned, along with her mother and brother, years earlier.
