Leslie Jordan was beloved for his roles in Del Shores’ movies as “Brother Boy”. His untimely death has prompted Shores and the cast to put together a tribute during Cathedral City LGBT Days this Saturday.
Jordan once played opposite Robert Downey Jr. in an episode of Ally McBeal. Downey couldn’t quite place where the two had met before. Jordan recounts it was a jail cell having been arrested on one of his infamous binges before choosing sobriety in the 90s.
He even participated in an early LGBT Days Bed Race and I’ve got the photo to prove it that I’ll be sharing on the socials @gaydesertguide this week. And we look forward to seeing you Friday – Sunday at Cathedral City LBGT Days, the first US Pride of 2023!

HARC Data Released Tuesday
On Tuesday, February 28 from 9:30–11am, HARC (an acronym for Health Assessment and Research for Communities) will release its highly anticipated triennial health survey of Coachella Valley residents, the most comprehensive such study in the region, and especially relevant coming after three years of the COVID pandemic. This new play takes a funny, touching and historically honest look at the relationship between Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed, a man he shared a bed with for four years. LGBTQ Humanists of Coachella Valley present a discussion of Humanism with Jim Barnett on Tuesday, February 28 from 6–7:30 pm on Zoom. Barnett will explore the meaning of humanism by comparing the definitions of humanism used by a variety of organizations that label themselves as humanist, examining some of the core principles of humanism and tracing the historical development of these principles. DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint Thursday
The Palm Springs Police Department will hold a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Thursday, March 2 from 7 pm–1 am at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Palm Springs. During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Palm Springs Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
PALS Death Cafe
They say “talking about death makes us feel good about living,” and this Thursday, March 2 from 2–3 pm, PALS (Planning Ahead for LGBTQ Seniors) presents their Death Cafe meeting on Zoom. This is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, specified topics, or designated outcomes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Fellini Retrospective: Juliet of the Spirits
Thanks to popular demand, the Palm Springs Cultural Center is extending its Fellini Retrospective series through the end of 2023, continuing on the first Friday of every month. The series is part of the Fellini 100 Tour, an international celebration of Fellini’s centennial taking place at major museums and film institutions worldwide. Experience why Fellini’s name is synonymous with the international art of cinema! On Friday, March 3 at 7 pm, the featured film will be Juliet of the Spirits (1965). Middle-aged Giulietta (Giulietta Masina) grows suspicious of her husband, Giorgio (Mario Pisu), when his behavior grows increasingly questionable. One night when Giorgio initiates a seance amongst his friends, Giulietta gets in touch with spirits and learns more about herself and her painful past. Cathedral City LGBT Days returns THIS WEEKEND: March 3–5, marking the first Pride celebration of the year! On FRIDAY, attend a free outdoor screening of Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and the debut of the first-ever Pride–themed drone aerial show, all at the Cathedral City Amphitheater, followed by an official after-party. SATURDAY, enjoy Drag Brunch and a daytime Pool Party at Paloma Resort featuring KGAY’s DJ Modgirl and guest hosts, and join famed comedian Del Shores and the cast of Sordid Lives in an all-star tribute to Leslie Jordan at the Mary Pickford Theater. Desert X Opens Saturday
After welcoming a total of more than 1.25 million to all three previous exhibitions in the Coachella Valley, Desert X returns for their fourth exhibition, opening Saturday, March 4 and running through Sunday, May 7.
