Gay Desert Guide Week of Sep 14 2026
Brad Fuhr

If there’s one commonality among this year’s recipients of the Greater Palm Springs Pride Honors Awards, it’s a true commitment to our community. As we mark 40 years of celebrating Pride in our little hamlet, these honorees will stand the test of time.

And we haven’t even heard who is the grand marshall for the Pride parade yet! John Taylor has the scoop this morning on KGAY 103.1. So first, our honorees:

  • Andrรฉ Chambers (Spirit of Pride Award)
Here’s an example of big city comes to small town to make a huge impact. Andrรฉ is a former Eagle LA Mr. Leather titleholder, but we know and love him from his award-winning documentary. Merman. He’s also an advocate for trans youth.
  • Andy Wysocki & Bill Sanderson of Townie Bagels (Business of Pride Award)
I’ve known Bill & Andy since moving to the desert, when they began making New York-style bagels in their home to sell at Farmers’ Markets. The store in the Sunny Dunes district is beloved and their work supporting causes is well documented.
  • Desert Business Association (DBA) (Spirit of Stonewall Organization of the Year)
When I first came to Palm Springs to start Gay Desert Guide, DBA was there to help. Not only that, the organization became partners with us. We offer memberships to our advertisers, but more importantly we flag all DBA member businesses on our website. It’s an important way that our LGBTQ+ community can support local businesses knowing which are members. David Powell has had a long tenure as executive director (and friend).
  • Kristie Dore (Spirit of Stonewall Friend of Pride Award)
Her service includes the board of directors for The LGBTQ+ Community Center of the Desert. You may know her from corralling events at the Palm Springs Convention Center. She’s should get sainthood for having to endure the many years that White Party was hosted there. She’s seen a lot!
  • Leslie Barclay (Community Service Award)
If you’ve enjoyed a free adult beverage at a fundraiser in this valley, you have Leslie to thank for it. That just means more of your contributions went to the organization and not to support your martini habit! Leslie has been a great friend of our community, and I always enjoy bellying up to the bar for a quick convo when she’s volunteering behind the bars she helps stock.
  • Randy Perrin (Spirit of Stonewall Volunteer of the Year)
I’m glad to see Randy honored not only for his work during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, but also for his work with Gay For Good (G4G) Palm Springs. I helped found the local chapter of G4G, which had its humble beginnings as an LGBTQ hiking group in LA back in the early 2000s.

Processingโ€ฆ
Success! You're on the Oasis Insiders list.

The Pride Honors Awards are just under two weeks away at the Palm Springs Hilton. Buying a ticket and attending is a great way to support Pride and get a good dose of “feel good” as you hear their stories and help celebrate what makes us a special place!
