“California’s greater Palm Springs is at its best during the spring season, as sunny weather, blooming wildflowers, and a heavy hitting lineup of world-famous events come to the desert. This year also brings the return of Desert X, a temporary art exhibition and festival featuring large installations in outdoor locations throughout the Coachella Valley.

Now in its fifth year, the biennial event returns with 11 new installations from artists around the world. Each installation explores the vastness of time in the desert through a different lens, ranging from universal themes (the desert’s ability to endure for millennia) to recent history (the displacement of Black residents from Section 14 in Palm Springs). The installations are spread across the region, placed in town and hidden deep in the desert landscape, which makes this an adventurous art festival at grand scale.
