These special events include a Keynote presentation by Michela O'Connor Abrams, Owner/Founder MOCA+, a book signing with architectural photographer and author Tim Street Porter, and tasty cooking demonstrations with Monogram Executive Chef Chef Jon Liddell. Both shows will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center February 16-19, 2018.

Weekend admission is $20 for both shows and includes return entry all weekend and a catalog. Show hours are Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.palmspringsmodernism.com. Tickets are also available at the door. The Palm Springs Convention Center is located at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros in Palm Springs.

Both shows open on Friday, February 16 at 6 p.m. with a festive Preview Reception to benefit Modernism Week. At this biggest party of Modernism Week, attendees will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, live music and an exclusive opportunity to be among the first to see and shop the world-class collections of both shows before they open to the general public. Tickets for the Preview Reception are $85 in advance (until Feb. 14, 2018) or $100 at the door. The ticket includes complimentary valet parking, a Modernism Week catalog, and unlimited return entry to the Modernism Show & Sale and Modern Design Expo for the remainder of the weekend.  Proceeds for this event benefit Modernism Week’s scholarship, educational and community programs. To purchase tickets for this event, visit modernismweek.com.

At the Preview Reception, attendees will have the opportunity to meet architectural photographer and author Tim Street Porter, and purchase signed copies of his new book, “Palm Springs Paradise.” Paying homage to the seminal midcentury modern architecture of Palm Springs, this luxurious new book showcases historic jet-set homes designed by legendary talents such as Richard Neutra, Albert Frey, and Paul Williams, as well as private residences by today’s leading tastemakers. It profiles outstanding architectural examples such as the Annenberg Estate, the Ford House, and the Kaufmann House, shown in their splendor, as well as today’s restorations by top interior designers such as Martyn Lawrence Bullard and fashion designer Trina Turk. This book-signing event will take place on Friday, February 16 from 6-9 PM at the Hennessey & Ingalls booth in the Modernism Show & Sale. Hennessey + Ingalls is the largest art, architecture and design bookstore in the western United States.

Palm Springs Modern Design Expo will showcase contemporary cutting edge home design products and technology from more than 40 exhibitors, presenting the newest and hippest elements for modern living including dynamic and energy efficient building concepts, cutting-edge home appliances, smart home technology and security, hand-crafted furniture and design accessories, contemporary art and photography, and much more. This is the first time this event will accompany the highly popular Modernism Show & Sale.

Modern Design Expo special events include a special Keynote presentation by Michela O'Connor Abrams, Owner/Founder MOCA+, a new design thinking practice, and former CEO of home design magazine Dwell.  O'Connor Abrams will present "Timeless Design is Modern Design" on Saturday, February 17 at 2 PM in the Monogram Booth. She was instrumental in launching the popular Dwell on Design fair in Los Angeles, which inspired the Modern Design Expo.

The Monogram Booth will also feature special food tastings every two hours on February 17 and 18. These tastings will be prepared by Chef Jon Liddell, Executive Chef at the GE Monogram Design Center in Chicago. Liddell is known for creating delicious treats using a Monogram induction cooktop and the latest advances in home appliance technology, such as the Advantium Speedcooking 6-in-1 oven. It has 175 pre-programmed speed cooking recipes and can cook four to eight times faster than a traditional oven, resulting in much tastier and healthier dishes because it seals in the vitamins and minerals. Monogram will also introduce a new column refrigerator that has the only auto-fill filtered water pitcher that refills itself every time you set it back in place.

In his cooking demonstrations, Liddell will discuss how tailored the home kitchen has become in its flow and usage of the kitchen space. He will showcase how Monogram appliances like the induction cooktop, remote enameled ovens, sous vide, and pizza ovens have enabled residential kitchens to advance and provide an even greater reflection of their owner.

On display at the Modern Design Expo will be a vintage Airfloat Trailer Coach, which will be open during the show for free tours.  The Airfloat is one of the oldest names in the history of American trailer coach manufacturing and in its day, was one of the most expensive post-war trailer coaches available. In 1942 Airfloat began offering a 24 ft. model called the Commodore, which was the inspiration for the original book “The Long, Long, Trailer” by Clinton “Buddy” Twiss. Twiss purchased a 28 ft. Landyacht for his great adventure, but a 1953 Redman New Moon 32′ trailer was used in the 1954 film of the same name, starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
