The Palm Desert City Council has announced a special meeting to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in response to a request introduced by Mayor Pro Tem Joe Pradetto during the council’s regular session on Dec. 11. The meeting will focus on a single action item that has generated significant public attention: a proposal to rescind City Council resolution 2024‑038, which outlines the city’s commemorations for LGBTQ Pride Month.

In addition to reviewing the request to rescind the Pride Month resolution, the council will also discuss potential amendments to resolution 2018‑09. That longstanding resolution affirms Palm Desert’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, serving as a foundational statement of the city’s values. Any proposed changes could shape how the city publicly expresses and upholds those commitments moving forward.

City officials emphasized that the special meeting is being convened to ensure transparency and to provide the community with a clear opportunity to observe and participate in the discussion. Recognizing the high level of public interest, the council is encouraging residents to engage directly—either by attending in person at City Hall or by joining remotely through the city’s livestream and public comment portal at https://palmdesert.zoom.us/. Additionally, the meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube.

All meeting materials, including the agenda and staff reports, have been posted in accordance with the Brown Act and are available for public review at www.palmdesert.gov. With strong community engagement anticipated, the meeting is expected to serve as an important forum for residents to voice their perspectives on the city’s approach to Pride Month recognition and its broader commitments to inclusion.
