Kurt Cyr (above right) and his partner, Jay Zaltzman (above left), moved to Palm Springs in the autumn of 2009 to become full time residents, 10 years after purchasing their first home in Palm Springs.
They were able to relocate both their businesses from Los Angeles to Palm Springs. Jay owns a market research company and conducts focus groups and other research for clients across the U.S. Kurt is a designer who also writes and speaks on design. Palm Springs has infused his designs with a new, colorful, and slightly retro point of view.

Together for 23 years, the move to Palm Springs began a new and exciting chapter in their lives. Shortly after they moved here, Kurt and Jay founded Salon for the Parched, a monthly gathering of creative thinkers.
A gathering of Salon for the Parched.
Kurt has been active with various modernism groups in Palm Springs, acting as docent for tours, as well as a tour guide for the double decker buses during Modernism Week.
Kurt says, “PS I love you because…”
- …of Palm Springs' modern architectural heritage. I appreciate the preservation that is taking place. By embracing, documenting and sharing it with the rest of the world, Palm Springs has become the destination for mid century architecture.
- …of the creative thinkers that make the Salon for the Parched possible. What began as a way to meet like-minded people has swollen into a monthly group with over 300 members. Through the salon, we have met so many incredibly talented people that we now call friends.
- …of the light and the landscape. I see the mountains outside my office window change from red, to orange to straw as the sun stretches on its arc throughout the course of the day.
- …of the sheer friendliness of Palm Springs. People who live here choose to make it their home. We chose Palm Springs. People are happy here. And it shows.
- …of Makerville, a collective studio of creative do-ers where we can collaborate together or work on our own creative pursuits in a supportive atmosphere.
Well, Kurt, clearly the Fabuloscity Factor got a boost when you two came to town. And regarding Salon for the Parched, how cool is that?! It's no wonder Palm Springs love you too!
xoxo
