Palm Springs Speaks: A Speaker Series will present guidebook author and travel TV host Rick Steves, this Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Richards Center for the Arts at the Palm Springs High School; the main event beginning at 3:30 p.m.There is also a Pre-Event Meet & Greet Reception + seating package available, sold separately, that will begin at 2:00 p.m. prior to the main event.

Known today as America's most respected authority on European travel, Rick took his first trip to Europe in 1969, visiting piano factories with his father, a piano importer. As an 18-year-old, Rick began traveling on his own, funding his trips by teaching piano lessons. In 1976, he started his business, Rick Steves' Europe, which has grown from a one-man operation to a company with a staff of 100 full-time, well-travelled employees at its headquarters in Edmonds, Washington, near Seattle. There he produces a best-selling guidebook series on European travel, America's most popular travel series on public television, a weekly hour-long national public radio show, a weekly syndicated column, and free travel information available through his travel center and ricksteves.com.

Through his travels Rick has come to believe that there’s more to travel than good-value hotels, great art, and tasty cuisine. Americans who “travel as a political act” can have the time of their lives and come home smarter with a better understanding of the interconnectedness of today’s world. In this provocative slideshow lecture, Rick will explain how travel can be truly transformational. Drawing from lessons he learned while exploring Europe, Central America, Asia, and the Middle East, Rick will explain that by traveling thoughtfully you can take home the greatest souvenir: a broader perspective. Attendees will receive his book Travel as a Political Act with their ticket.

Follett Books will be on site to sell additional titles by Rick Steves. A book signing will follow the main presentation.
