Gay Desert Guide Weekend Feb 13-15 2026
Brad Fuhr at the RCA

“The strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.” That quote—from ancient times– came from Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney recently. He was describing the world that Donald Trump is dragging us into, according to a New York Times Op-Ed piece from Leighton Woodhouse.

We in the LGBTQ+ community are just one of the “weak” that this administration and its followers has targeted. Misery loves company, so we have plenty of it as year two grinds on with immigration raids, hate crimes and erasing history as we know it.

On today’s KGAY morning show, John Taylor will be talking with Mr. Palm Springs Leather Pride, Honey Davenport, from the site of the latest atrocity — The Stonewall Inn. Honey joined others Thursday in hoisting the Pride flag back up the flagpole, defying the National Park Service’s removal a day earlier.

It’s just another brick in the wall that’s being removed to erase us from our hard fought victories over my lifetime. But on the horizon is a real fight we’ll be waging again — the fight to save marriage equality. It’s taken a new twist with conservative activists.

In late January 2026, a coalition of over 40 organizations, including Them Before Us, Focus on the Family, and the Family Research Council, launched the “Greater Than” campaign, according to GPAHE, the Global Project Against Hate & Extremism. They are trying to reframe Obergefell by focusing on children’s rights rather than adult equality.

The coalition aims to propose state-level legislative options that could create “test cases” to eventually reach the Supreme Court. Whether Republicans will go along with this strategy remains to be seen. But the courts aren’t weighted in our favor this time, so I’m concerned that this strategy may succeed on a state level, then eventually find its way to the high court.

We must remain strong as these battles unfold. If they sense weakness, we lose. So activism through protesting, voting, running for office and financially supporting our causes are more important than ever.
