Gay Desert Guide Week of Feb 10 2025
Brad Fuhr Caricature

Tequila or THC. Which is worse for you? With all the political turmoil, itโ€™s tempting to numb the โ€œpainโ€ with alcohol or drugs. (We wonโ€™t know how usage rates went up post-election for some time, but I have my theoriesโ€ฆ)

In a Wall Street Journal article titled, โ€œBooze or Weed: Whatโ€™s Worse for Your Health?โ€, the answer is both.

โ€œThe reality is, if youโ€™re really worried about your health, you wouldnโ€™t use either of them,โ€ says Ryan Vandrey, a professor at Johns Hopkins University who helps run the Cannabis Science Lab.

And thatโ€™s no surprise, as weโ€™ve heard study after study tell us the downsides of drinking. Wine was suppose to be better, but thatโ€™s been recently debunked. And weed especially as gummies can help with sleep and anxiety. โ€œCannabis may be lower in calories than alcohol but both substances can have the net effect of causing people to eat more, the so-called munchies,โ€ according to the article.

Mushrooms are also gaining favor, even among CEOโ€™s. I read an article about a Canadian former CEO now leading retreats for others in the boardroom who trip for the betterment of their companies. Many report coming away โ€œenlightenedโ€. Sounds intriguing, but I think Iโ€™ll stay with my regiment of Manhattans and Malbec. And maybe an occasional gummy.
