“Drive to Survive! The Race Against Hunger” is the name of this year’s food drive being sponsored by the Greater Palm Springs Realtors. The Race Against Hunger began on August 1, and will run through September 15, 2023. The Realtors are building momentum amongst themselves with their own internal challenge titled: “May the Best Broker/Agent Win” The Greater Palm Springs Realtors encourage all local agents to compete in raising the most donations. The winning agent will receive a trophy, a half page ad in Palm Springs Life Magazine and a feature on the GPSR website.

Mike Thompson, CEO of The Center says: “Greater Palm Springs Realtors understands the impact food insecurity is having on many in our community and has, once again, responded in the most generous way. There is no doubt this year’s ‘Drive to Survive! Race Against Hunger’ will fill the shelves of The Center’s Community Food Bank, and, most importantly, meet the needs of our clients who depend on this important resource. We are so grateful for their partnership.”

The Center Community Food Bank, provides food distribution to 250 families or 600 individuals every week of the year. The significance of this service is impactful for all but 40% of those who participate are aged 55 and older. Seniors and other members of the LGBTQ+ community benefit greatly from this outreach program saving as much as $300 a month or $3,600 a year in grocery expenses. Beneficiaries of this aid have described it as providing a means to their daily survival. All qualifying individuals are welcomed into a loving and accepting camaraderie of staff members and volunteers. The mission of the LGBT Community Center is echoed every Thursday as we extend our love and support beyond the Center’s doors to humankind without prejudice.
