Palm Springs’ gay bar scene is changing and evolving almost monthly with new bars opening, and the ebb and flow of nightclub’s popularity changing.
When you visit gay Palm Springs, you have lots of options: Â the hottest gay bars like Hunters and Toucan’s Tiki Lounge continue to be popular most nights of the week. Â But that sometimes brings bachelorette parties and our straight allies into the mix. Â For most, it’s a good thing.
Chill Bar came on the scene a couple years ago and has fast become a favorite for locals and our neighbors from Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego and the OC. Its prime location on Arenas with sweeping outdoor patios on two sides is a great spot to people watch or to meet someone.
New on the scene on Arenas is Blackbook Bar & Kitchen, a gastropub fast becoming known for its menu of nachos, salads, burgers and “Birdie Num Nums” – chicken to the rest of us. Â It takes the spot where Cafe Palette languished for so many years and is a welcome addition to the block.
There’s another spot to eat & drink on Arenas – Bongo Johnny’s is closed due to a fire. Next door is a respite for those looking for a quieter spot: Stacy’s at Palm Springs is the first piano bar on the block.  It takes after its’ twin “Stacy’s on Melrose in Phoenix — in name only.
If strong drinks are what you want, head next door to Streetbar. Â Mixed drinks contain a splash of mixer for color and good measure. Â It’s a locals hangout with entertainment and a truly friendly staff.
Wang’s in the Desert had been the go-to spot for the drive-in-from-LA crowd to start their Friday night. Â It’s still popular with loyal locals who flock to the patio for cheap well drinks and some good eye candy.
The Tool Shed has that “Eagle” vibe to it and of course is in a mostly industrial area near Warm Sands. Â Underwear night is a Thursday night staple.
Need a drink at 6 a.m.? Â Score Sports Bar is open and waiting for you.
We cover Cathedral City bars and nightlife and also have a skinny on Gay-Friendly Hangouts.
