The Boys (and Ladies) Are Back in Town: The National Gay Pilots Association
The National Gay Pilots Association (bringing together "The Worldwide LGBT Aviation Community") Palm Springs Winter Warm-Up is their flagship West Coast event, to be held January 19 to January 22, 2017 at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel.
Over twenty-five years ago, their first event was held in Provincetown, Mass., and included a handful of gay pilots who communicated by telephone and were discreetly identified by sporting an airplane on their shirts. At the time, members risked losing their job or being dishonorably discharged from the military if they were outed as gay. From that group, a national organization evolved.
Today, they reach over 4,000 members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community worldwide, including recreational and commercial pilots, flight instructors, air traffic controllers, mechanics, airport managers, and other aviation professionals and enthusiasts from the United States and abroad. Annually, they organize for members two major social events, the second-largest pilots recruiting and hiring exposition in the U.S., and bring visibility and support to various Pride events across the country. The NGPA is the largest organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pilots, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world. More Info

19th Annual Tour de Palm Springs
We have our share of bikers in town throughout the year – both the "vroom vroom" and the "give us some room" kind. Palm Springs has an extensive network of bike trails that have grown thanks to people like Brett Klein, who with Vic Yepello founded the CV Bicycle Coalition. Since 1999 the Tour de Palm Springs has gone from 300 riders to over 7,500 riders, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for local non-profit groups. The course is mainly flat with some rolling hills and minor climbs. It starts at Alejo & North Palm Canyon. Will this be the last year of the Tour de Palm Springs in Palm Springs??? More Info

Dezart Performs Clybourne Park
Clybourne Park, the black (and white) comedy by Bruce Norris, opened this past weekend and the buzz is on, with performances Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30 PM; Saturdays and Sundays @ 2:00 PM.
This razor-sharp Tony award-winning comedy takes a jab at race and real estate in a fictional Chicago neighborhood. The play begins in 1959 as a black family moves into a white enclave. Act Two takes us back to the same house in 2009 as gentrification sets in and the roles are reversed.
One agile ensemble of actors plays two sets of characters in what The Washington Post deemed "one of the feistiest, funniest evenings in years."
Tickets are Nearly Sold Out!
The Retro Room Lounge in Palm Springs harkens back to the days when cool was created.
We’re talking about a place where the Rat Pack would come to loosen their skinny ties and hang up their stingy-brimmed hats. And Happy Hour specials are mixed just as Sammy, Frankie, Joey and Dino would have liked them. Happy Hour happens every day until 7 PM and from 9 PM to midnight.
By your third visit to Street Bar on Arenas Road, the staff will know your name and your drink. This public house feels like a visit to “Cheers” and boasts Happy Hour prices for muscular drinks such as Makers Mark bourbon, Grey Goose Vodka and Jack Daniel’s whiskey. Happy Hour runs from 10 AM to 8 PM until April 2017.
Aside from its California Contemporary take on Midwest comfort food, Trio is special because it gives back to the local community to the tune of $100,000 to such charities as Aids Assistance Program and Dining Out for Life for the Desert AIDS Project.
Trio diners will find Yankee Pot Roast or Lamb Shanks braised with a pinch of TLC. More Info
