The LGBT Community Center of the Desert (The Center) is joining with CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers (www.lgbtcenters.org) and the Consortium (www.lgbtcampus.org) to celebrate the 8th Annual LGBT Center Awareness Day on Wednesday, October 19. The Center will hold a special event at its Community Food Bank @ The Center, located at 610 S. Belardo Road in Palm Springs, where volunteers will help re-vitalize the permanent home of the Community Food Bank with a fresh coat of paint donated by Dunn-Edwards.
“We're hard at work to coordinate the 8th annual nationwide day of action focused on LGBT community centers,” said Terry Stone, CenterLink's CEO. “More than 1.9 million people visit the more than 200 LGBT community centers across the country each year. Centers have more direct access to the LGBT community than any other organization and are the backbone of the LGBT movement. We are excited to highlight that work through Center Awareness Day.”
LGBT Center Awareness Day is intended to showcase the vital role that community centers play in the health, empowerment, strength and cohesiveness of all LGBT communities. Events will take place at local centers all over the world in celebration of the day.
The Community Food Bank @ The Center will be featured on Center Awareness Day, as it settles into its now permanent home at Belardo, after The LGBT Community Center of the Desert’s recent successful $3.5 million capital campaign to move into the McDonald/Wright building located at 1301 N. Palm Canyon Dr. Volunteer painters will help put on a fresh new face for The Community Food Bank @ The Center, thanks to the generosity of community partners Gay Desert Guide and Dunn-Edwards, who’ve secured the paint and supplies needed for the event.
“We’re using Center Awareness Day as a way to shine a spotlight on the unique work The Community Food Bank @ The Center does for our entire community, providing healthy and nutritious meals to Riverside County residents. We’re excited that partners like Gay Desert Guide and Dunn-Edwards are helping us rejuvenate The Community Food Bank for all to enjoy,” said Mike Thompson, CEO of The Center.
