PSP Economic Report

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is confirmed as a cornerstone of the Coachella Valley’s economic prosperity, generating $2.5 billion in total economic output and supporting 18,377 jobs in Fiscal Year 2024. This new economic impact study, released recently, highlights the airport’s crucial role in visitor spending, tax revenue, and significant job creation across the region, with further growth anticipated.

The 2025 Economic Impact Study reveals that PSP generated $864 million in wages paid, contributed $1.5 billion in value added (GDP), and produced $382 million in tax revenue for local, county, state, and federal governments. This substantial economic activity occurred while the airport continued its streak of record-breaking passenger growth.

“This study demonstrates how deeply PSP is woven into the economic fabric of our community,” stated Harry Barrett, Jr., Executive Director of Aviation. He added that the airport “powers opportunity for thousands of people every single day” by creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and drawing visitors who sustain the hospitality industry. Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that PSP is “a cornerstone of long-term economic growth” and contributes to shaping “a stronger, more connected region”.

Key findings from the study include:

  • $2.5 billion in total economic output across the region last year.
  • 18,377 jobs supported across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
  • Over $1.1 billion in visitor spending directly linked to PSP travelers.
  • $382 million in government tax revenue generated.
  • 98% of the economic benefits remain within Riverside County.

A significant portion of PSP’s impact stems from incoming visitors who bolster employment in hotels, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions throughout the valley. In fact, 61% of all jobs supported by the airport are directly tied to visitor activity.

PSP Economic Impact Study Summary

Looking to the future, PSP is planning major improvements over the next decade to accommodate record-breaking passenger numbers and rising demand. These enhancements include a new concourse, a Federal Inspection Station to expand international air service, and a rental car center. According to the study, these future improvements are projected to:

  • Create over 9,800 jobs (approximately 1,000 jobs annually).
  • Generate $641 million in labor income.
  • Add $1.8 billion in future economic output.
  • Deliver $253 million in new tax revenue.

The study underscores PSP’s profound local impact, with Coachella Valley cities receiving the majority share of the airport’s economic benefit. Nearly every dollar spent at PSP recirculates into the local economy, supporting public services, infrastructure, and thousands of workers across various sectors including tourism, hospitality, and retail.

As the region continues to plan for future growth, PSP’s role is more vital than ever. Ongoing improvements will enable the airport to keep pace with demand while consistently delivering economic returns and a world-class experience for both travelers and residents.
