Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the launch of the FREE Walk of Stars app for iPhone users.
The new app is a multifunctional and interactive alternative to a printed map, and is an up-to-date resource for Walk of the Stars honorees that also features opt-in end user notifications for upcoming star dedications. The Walk of Stars app features biographical information, star address, honoree photo, and links to websites like IMDb and Wikipedia for all 437 stars honored to date by Walk of the Stars since the program began in February 1992. Honorees since 2019 will also have video clips from their Walk of the Stars dedication ceremony.
“The City of Palm Springs would like to thank our Chamber of Commerce for their innovative leadership developing this outstanding new app for Walk of the Stars,” said Mayor Geoff Kors. “I downloaded it myself and it’s an incredibly user-friendly tool for residents and visitors looking to locate their favorite stars in downtown. I encourage everyone to check it out.”
To provide end users the ability to visually locate a star with ease, Google Maps is integrated in the app and uses the end user’s GPS location to provide directions to the star. Additionally, the Walk of Stars app features Walk of the Stars and Pop Trivia. Several trivia questions related to Walk of the Stars honorees makes the app a fun source for local and visiting pop trivia game players. The Local Deals feature provides valuable coupons, deals, and discounts for uniquely Palm Springs businesses, restaurants, and attractions exclusively for Walk of Stars end users. End users can even build and share to social media their very own star using a replica of the Walk of the Stars monument. The additional features make the app useful as a handy visitors resource that also promotes local small businesses, especially those located near stars within a 2 mile span currently ranging from 1301 North Palm Canyon in the fashionable Uptown Design District to 415 South Palm Canyon in the Historic Tennis Gardens district.
“Walk of the Stars has become a “uniquely Palm Springs” tourist attraction that visitors find fun and fascinating,” said Mary Jo Ginther, director of the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “The new app is a fantastic way to help promote a special attraction that truly is a part of the magic that makes Palm Springs like no place else.”
The Walk of Stars app project began in late 2018 with the developer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame app. “As impressed as we were with Walk of Fame’s app function as a map to the stars, we wanted our app to also have the Palm Springs aesthetic which is sunny and modern. After considering several ideas for the Walk of Stars app design, we finally found the look and feel that fit that objective,” said Nona Watson, Palm Springs Chamber CEO.
iPhone users can download the Walk of Stars app for free from iTunes and the App Store now [click here]. A version of the app for Android users is currently in the works.
