Palm Canyon Theatre invites audiences to journey “somewhere over the rainbow” as it presents The Wizard of Oz, running July 17–26, 2026, at the historic theatre in downtown Palm Springs. Based on the beloved MGM film and featuring the iconic music of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, this production brings the timeless story of courage, friendship, and the search for home to life for a new generation of theatre lovers.
As detailed in the press release, the adventure begins when Dorothy Gale—played by Ava Tethal—is swept from Kansas into the fantastical world of Oz. Along the Yellow Brick Road, she encounters the Scarecrow (Noah Wahlberg), Tin Man (Timothy Rathke), and Cowardly Lion (Christian Quevedo), who join her in seeking the mysterious Wizard, portrayed by Paul Grant. Their journey is complicated by the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Christine Michele, while Glinda (Tara Howard), Aunt Em (Stevie Gold), Uncle Henry (Cliff Goodrich), Professor Marvel (Paul Grant), and Toto (Boobah) help shape Dorothy’s unforgettable quest.
The production features classic songs including “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” supported by a large ensemble cast that brings the magical world of Oz to vibrant life. The creative team includes director David Brooks, assistant director Leo Milmet, choreographer Se Layne, music director Chuck Peery, scenic and lighting designer J.W.
