Continuing its well-established tradition of bringing nationally-known entertainers to Palm Springs, Michael Holmes’ Purple Room is pleased to announce that its Spring 2017 season will include an exciting line-up of Living Legends, including Tommy Tune, Joanne Worley, Marilyn Maye, Charles Busch and Carole Cook, among others.
“Tommy Tune opened our Fall 2016 season over Labor Day weekend with an overwhelming response. Since then, our customers have been asking us when Tommy will return,” said club owner Michael Holmes, “so we were very excited to invite him back for two shows on February 24th and 25th. We’d barely confirmed the booking and immediately started getting calls. We expect it to be a spectacular weekend.”
Presented by veteran producer, Dick Taylor, Tommy Tune will perform his one man show, TOMMY TUNE TONIGHT. The ever evolving biographical show features Tune's personal renditions of standards by Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Burt Bacharach, the Gershwins, Carole King, Green Day and more. Michael Biagi, Tommy's music director for nearly four decades, will accompany him.
Following Tommy Tune, will be stage and screen star, Joanne Worley, also produced by Dick Taylor. “Joanne is a real audience favorite,” Taylor said. “Her show is filled with wonderfully outrageous anecdotes, masterful comedy (she's just plain funny!) and a musical talent that is simply not to be missed.” Joanne Worley will perform on Friday, March 3rd and again on Saturday, March 4th.
Marilyn Maye, who performed two sold out benefit concerts at Michael Holmes’ Purple Room in December 2016, returns on Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th. "Marilyn Maye is a cabaret dynamo! Watching Marilyn is watching an entertainment master class of the highest order” said Michael Holmes. "She’s a highly praised singer, actress, director, arranger, educator, a Grammy nominated recording artist and a international musical treasure. We are just thrilled to be able to bring her back.”
The inimitable Charles Busch, two-time MAC Award winner, Tony nominee, and drag legend brings “The Lady at the Mic” – his eclectic program of songs, both contemporary and from the past, to Michael Holmes’ Purple Room on Friday, March 17th and Saturday, March 18th. Writing about Busch, New York Times critic Stephen Holden said, "He has the gift of comic gab like few other entertainers. Innately funny, endearing and acutely intelligent, he also has claws. For an audience, the possibility of being scratched, although remote, lends his humor a bracing edge."
Rounding out five weeks of spectacular entertainment, iconic actress Carole Cook returns to Michael Holmes’ Purple Room, once again courtesy of producer Dick Taylor. Singer, comedienne and a cabaret favorite in New York and Los Angeles, Cook has scores of musical comedy shows to her credit, Mame and Hello Dolly! among them. She will perform two shows at Michael Holmes’ Purple Room – one on Friday, March 24th and another on Saturday, March 25th.
Tickets for any or all of the afore-mentioned shows are available by clicking here, or by calling 800-838-3006. In addition to Friday and Saturday night ticketed shows, Michael Holmes’ Purple Room also features complimentary live entertainment on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and of course, every Sunday, it’s the hysterical smash hit, The Judy Show, a parody of the 1963 Judy Garland Show, starring Michael Holmes.
