Local Businesses Participate in Second “Pop Up Palm Springs”

Pop Up Palm Springs is returning to Palm Springs during Greater Palm Springs Pride Weekend, Friday, November 1 from 3 to 8 pm. The inaugural Pop Up Palm Springs event took place in April of this year, on the Tuesday between Coachella Festival weekends. A variety of Palm Springs businesses in the Uptown and Downtown neighborhoods joined forces to create a new way of showcasing what makes Palm Springs unique. Times of the individual events vary, but events run throughout the afternoon and evening. From fashion shows to art exhibitions, in-store specials, food demonstrations and parties, this is another way to experience what’s ON in Palm Springs.

The motivation for the original event came from business owners, representatives of Main Street and other civic organizations wanting to dispel the notion that during ‘the season’ (and especially during the week of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival) locals should avoid going out to avoid crowds. The reality is, it’s always a great time to explore what Palm Springs has to offer. During Pride Weekend, Palm Canyon Drive will be closed to vehicles (as during VillageFest) and beginning at 6 pm on Friday there will be live music in front of the Hyatt hotel, with the Pride Festival continuing through Sunday. Main Street and the merchants of Uptown and Downtown are excited to be a part of it all.

Each Pop Up Palm Springs participating business will provide a free Passport during their event. Since each Passport will be entered into a drawing, participants will greatly increase their chances of winning by visiting more businesses. Every participating business is donating a prize so there are dozens of opportunities to win.

Jeffrey Bernstein of Destination PSP describes Pop Up Palm Springs during Pride Weekend as “encouraging locals and visitors to come out and shop and eat during the Pride Weekend festivities, enjoying the wide variety of stores and businesses and seeing the best of what we offer.”

Dozens of businesses have already signed up to participate. Most events are free of charge, but some special meals are not. Some dining specials may require a reservation.
