The LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert (Archives) is marking Pride Month with a unique event celebrating LGBTQ home movies. In collaboration with local non-profits Deserted Films and the Palm Springs Cultural Center (PSCC), the Archives is hosting a day dedicated to preserving and showcasing personal LGBTQ+ history through film.
On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the day begins with a home movie preservation session from 3:00โ5:30 PM in the PSCC lobby. Community members are invited to bring their home movies, where preservation experts will assess their condition and provide recommendations on storage and digitization. This free service will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Following the afternoon session, from 6:30โ8:00 PM, the Archives and Deserted Films will present a screening of rarely and never-before-seen LGBTQ+ footage from their collections. In collaboration with the UCLA Library Film & Television Archive, the event will feature archival works by Pat Rocco showcasing Palm Springs and Los Angeles, as well as home movies capturing Hollywood stars in their daily lives. The screening aims to emphasize the importance of preserving personal LGBTQ+ history and inspire attendees to safeguard their own home movies.
The evening concludes with a reception from 8:00โ9:00 PM, where guests can mingle and continue the conversation. Tickets for both the screening and reception are $45, including one drink ticket, with proceeds benefiting The Archives, Deserted Films, and The Palm Springs Cultural Center.
David Gray, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Archives, highlighted the importance of this event, stating, โThese films are a glimpse into the lives of LGBTQ peopleโwith friends, family, on vacation, and in their homes. Itโs important to show that their lives are part of the bigger story of society. Our shared experiences help create a more inclusive world that embraces equality and justice.โ
All events will take place at PSCC (2300 E Baristo Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92262), with ample free parking available. For tickets or donations, click here.
This event offers an exceptional opportunity to reflect on LGBTQ+ history and its role in shaping a more inclusive future, making it a must-attend for Pride Month celebrations in Palm Springs.
