Trailblazing Lesbians of Coachella Valley

Lesbian Visibility Week will illuminate the Coachella Valley from April 20โ€“26, 2026, as three leading LGBTQ+ organizationsโ€”the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, the LGBTQ History & Archives of the Desert, and Greater Palm Springs Prideโ€”join forces for a week of celebration, education, and community connection. Inspired by The Curve Foundationโ€™s National Lesbian Visibility Week, the local programming uplifts the art, history, and lived experiences of lesbians, queer women, and nonโ€‘binary people who identify with the community.

This yearโ€™s events honor the pioneers who shaped the region while creating space for todayโ€™s voices to be seen, heard, and valued. The full schedule is available at www.thecentercv.org/LVW2026.

The weekโ€™s signature highlight arrives Tuesday, April 21, with the debut of โ€œTrailblazing Lesbians of the Coachella Valleyโ€ at the Welwood Murray Memorial Libraryโ€”a powerful exhibit honoring Barbara Carpenter, Gail Christian, Lucy DeBardelaben, Ruth Debra, Marjorie Main, Joani Hannan, and Melinda Tremaglio. Their leadership and resilience helped build the foundation of LGBTQ+ life in the desert.
