Bylines Broadcasts Big Screen

The Coachella Valley Journalism Foundation is launching an ambitious new monthly film series, Bylines, Broadcasts and the Big Screen, bringing some of the most influential journalists of the past century to Palm Springs for screenings, conversations, and community dialogue. Produced in partnership with the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the series runs from September 2026 through April 2027 and highlights landmark films that explore the power, responsibility, and cultural impact of journalism.

โ€œJournalists have been one of the most widely portrayed professions in films, because the public is fascinated by the work they do,โ€ said CVJF President Randy Lovely. โ€œCVJF is excited to partner with the Palm Springs Cultural Center to screen these amazing movies and to engage the community in conversations about the work of journalists โ€” and the important role they play in society.โ€

Several screenings will feature the real journalists whose work inspired the films. Carl Bernstein will appear in January for All the Presidentโ€™s Men, discussing his Watergate reporting with Bob Woodward. Megan Twohey joins the February screening of She Said to reflect on her Pulitzer Prizeโ€‘winning investigation into Harvey Weinstein. Former Boston Globe editor Walter Robinson will attend the November screening of Spotlight, the film depicting his teamโ€™s groundbreaking reporting on clergy abuse.

The series is presented by the Supple Foundation, with additional support from the Donald and Coeta Barker Foundation; David Cantwell and Vincent Monteleone; Stuart Kent and Mark Pellegrino; Jim and Carol Egan; and David Hood. Proceeds benefit both CVJF and the Palm Springs Cultural Center.

Season passes are now available on the Cultural Centerโ€™s website, with individual tickets going on sale July 27. Packages range from $200 for all screenings to $1,000 for benefactor access, including receptions and onโ€‘stage recognition.
