How to Submit Your Music to KGAY
We do not accept cd’s anymore…everything is digital.
As we get inquiries from artists that do not presently have label representation I have prepared a sort of FAQ on the steps to getting songs played on radio and protecting the artist….some of the info may be helpful:
Thank you for your interest in getting your song played on KGAY. KGAY is a commercial radio station with programming targeted to the Palm Springs LGBTQ+ community. As much of our community is older, we focus on playing “dance hits” from disco to today. Unlike some streaming services we tend to play fewer current songs which means that the ones that we choose to add get played more often and our hope is that each title becomes a national format hit that will stay in our library for years to come, but like any radio station or streaming service your song must first fit the sound of the station before we can give it consideration. For example, if you are a gay country artist it’s unlikely that your song will be heard on KGAY as our listeners come to us for dance music first. What makes KGAY unique is our LGBTQ+ commitment through the content we offer around the songs.
There are numerous steps that go into getting a song played on the radio but here are some items for you to consider as you submit your song for airplay:
We are required to pay royalties for every song we play to Sound Exchange as well as ASCAP, BMI or SESAC. If you and your song are not members of some of those performance rights organizations, you may not get compensation for airplay. We cannot suggest which ones are best but there are differences…Sound Exchange is geared towards compensation for performers of the song and ASCAP, BMI and SESAC are designed to compensate the authors of the songs played.
All tracks must be broadcast quality. We do not accept links to Spotify playlists, dropboxes, websites etc. If you wish to submit your song it must be a standard audio format. We prefer .wav files but will also accept .mp3 files for audition but we will not play a title that is not in .wav format so we can get the cleanest sound possible. You are welcome to submit your song as a reply to this email. Don’t send an entire “album” as our system will choke. As the performer you should pick the track you think will have the best chance of becoming a hit.

This is not a requirement but without their promotion to build awareness across the dance community it is hard for a song to get that “critical mass” level of rotations that make it a hit that the whole panel plays.
I hope you find this information helpful. Feel free to submit your track with the understanding that we cannot guarantee airplay. While we like to give preference to members of our LGBTQ+ community our first obligation is selecting titles that we feel will please our KGAY audience. Sometimes we get submissions that don’t fit the sound of the station at all so I always suggest listening to our stream through http://kgaypalmsprings.com or the iHeartRadio app first so you can get a feel of what we do.
