Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter has officially changed its name to Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s growth and reflecting a broader vision to enhance animal welfare throughout the Coachella Valley.
Continuing to proudly operate the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, this name change represents a commitment to expanding services beyond the shelter walls. A key focus includes the Desert Wildlife Center in Indio, scheduled to open in Spring 2025. This center will serve as a safe refuge for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, providing essential medical treatment and rehabilitation.
Additionally, Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies is finalizing negotiations with the City of Desert Hot Springs to open the Desert Community Animal Center later this Spring. Formerly operated by the Humane Society of the Desert and shuttered since 2018, this center will offer a range of services, including basic animal care, wellness visits, vaccinations, public spay/neuter clinics, a pet food bank, and TNR (trap/neuter/return for community cats), to pets and pet owners throughout the Coachella Valley.
Tim Watts, Board Chair of Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies, stated, โOur new name reflects our deep commitment to serving animals across the valley, not just within the shelter. With this name change, we are embracing a broader mission and opening the door to future projects that will expand and strengthen our work in animal advocacy and care. We look forward to continuing this journey with the incredible support of our community, as we work together to expand animal welfare services and advocacy throughout the Coachella Valley.โ
