Open for less than a year, the sleek industrial styled BlackBook Bar located in the heart of the gay strip on Arenas is now the perfect place for The Morning After; well at least on Saturday & Sunday.
BlackBook, in addition to offering its regular upscale bar food, is now offering its take on brunch with The Morning After ($12) one of its signature sandwiches. And what a sandwich it is. Taking their classic ‘double-dredged’ BlackBook fried chicken, they’ve dressed it up with a fried-egg, smashed potatoes, Applewood smoked bacon, and topped it with melted cheddar cheese and bacon gravy; all sandwiched between a fresh brioche bun. Talk about flavor. On my recent visit it came piping hot, every mouthful was a sensation of rich flavors.
Sampling several of their other items, I loved their other the two sandwiches as well. “You’re #1” ($9) produced a ‘wow’ when I bit into the scrambled eggs and caramelized onions, topped with cheddar cheese and spicy mayo. And the Bacon Egg and Cheese ($8) is a great take on the ever-popular breakfast sandwich.
However if sandwiches aren’t your thing for brunch, BlackBook has reimagined Silver Dollar Pancakes ($8). Served in a cup with syrup and Applewood smoked bacon, they’re just enough of that traditional breakfast taste without the heaviness of usual pancakes.
The Tito’s Vodka French Toast ($11) served with fruit, bacon and amazing Butterscotch Bourbon Sauce, is really another treat for an early day at the bar. It’s hard to reinvent French Toast but by using fresh Brioche and a little alcohol, BlackBook has elevated it to a new level.
Rounding out the every changing menu are a couple of other morning favorites like their version of Chilaquiles, a Burrito, several shareable sides, and specialty cocktails like their versions of a Bloody Mary; classic or the spicier ‘Devil’s Strain.’
