Event Details

Join Brothers of the Desert and members of our larger Black LBGTQ+ community as we celebrate Juneteenth and consider its traditions and meaning. This event will take place at the Mizell Center on June 18th from 4 to 8 pm.

Dinner will be prepared and provided by some our best chefs in the community. There will be a short program of music and spoken word offerings by Sweet Baby J'ai, Keisha D, Richard Riley, Anye Elite, Perry Lang and others. We will also pay a special tribute to leader and trailblazer, Gail Christian. After the dinner we will continue the celebration with music and dancing .

We will also be holding a contest for the best Juneteenth cake with a prize of a gourmet gift basket. Come show us your skills and let us know if you plan to join in on the contest by contacting Michael Taylor at

It is more important now more than ever that we support and uplift our Black LGBTQ+ community in these challenging times that continue to pose threats to our freedom.
