Positive Life is a grassroots, volunteer-run monthly HIV education program for people living with HIV in the Coachella Valley.
On Tuesday, June 7, 2022 the event is the movie “Right to Try”. Camelot Theater only (no Zoom this month)
A Longterm HIV Survivor puts his life on the line for a cure.
What would you do if you had a chance to help cure AIDS?
Most of us imagine we’d jump at the chance. Now, what if your role in this effort was Guinea Pig? Los Angeles resident andlong-term HIV survivor Jeffrey Drew volunteered for just that job.
Produced by Octavia Spencer and directed by Zeb Newman, “Right to Try” chronicles Drew’s
courageous decision to undergo a risky, unproven therapy regime which he hopes will cure him- and ultimately millions more - of HIV.
The half-hour film documents Drew’s reasons for volunteering, his hopes for a cure and an end
to AIDS profiteering. It’s not an easy commitment; Drew endured grueling side effects during
the experimental treatment.
His guts, sincerity and heroism are nothing short of inspiring, but nothing is simple here. The
film as well as Drew’s treatment has met with controversy for a variety of reasons ever since its release.
This will be an in-person event only--no Zoom this month as we don't have permission to broadcast this documentary online.
We look forward to seeing you there!
