The Coachella Valley community is invited to join the City of Palm Springs
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Committee and the City of Coachella at a special outdoor remembrance ceremony celebrating the important accomplishments of the slain civil rights leader on Sunday, Jan. 16.
The 2 p.m. commemoration will be held outside at the Coachella Library, located at 1500 6th Street. This year’s theme is “Bridging the Communities of the Coachella Valley.” The program features a benediction from Deacon Martin Sullivan from Our Lady of Soledad Catholic Church in Coachella followed by a keynote speech from local attorney Anyse Smith. In addition, entertainment will be provided by singer Keisha D, Sol de mi Tierra Ballet Folklorico, and Norman and Sharon McKee will perform African Drums.

The Palm Springs Art Museum kicks off Black History Month with the Palm Springs Black History Committee, featuring a student performance from the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center Drill Team and Drum Squad.
The opening reception will held Thursday, February 3, 5:30–7 pm in the Sinatra Court and Houston Atrium.
Following the kick off, enjoy a self-guided tour available at the admissions desk celebrating Black Artists on view.
In-person docent tours are also available celebrating Black Artists on view and highlights from the museum collection. Space is limited. Please make a reservation for the free tour. Check out all of our Black History Month programming here.
NOTE: All museum visitors are required to make a reservation online, no walk-ups, before arriving. Proof of vaccination required. This includes Free Thursday Nights.
Thursday nights are free from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., supported by the City of Palm Springs.
