Going to the chapel and they’re gonna get married. Or are they? It’s been a rough year for Attie VanLeer and Harline Frye. Their engagement has been on and off more times than a drunk frat boy on a mechanical bull. Half the town has been invited, the dress is fitted, the flowers have been ordered, and the gifts are piling up in the living room. So why does Harline still have cold feet? Will they or won’t they? That’s the big question in Southern Fried Nuptials, the hysterical sequel to Osborne and Eppler’s hit comedy Southern Fried Funeral.
Says Lance Phillips, Director and Artistic Director of Desert TheatreWorks, “I have never met a person who doesn’t laugh out loud during an excellent Southern stage comedy. Even the stubborn naysayers cannot help to find the humor in a well-crafted comedic play. A few years ago I chose Osborne and Eppler’s SOUTHERN FRIED FUNERAL to open our season. I loved the mix of silly slapstick with very relatable characters and subject matter that dug deeper than a typical farce. In the sequel, SOUTHERN FRIED NUPTIALS, the playwrights delight the audience with the funny and the touching moments. I find these types of shows exhilarating to direct. On one hand, the comedy is rapid-fire paced and on the other extremely human.”

The same characters appear in all the plays in the series. We’re fortunate to have some of our favorite actors reprising characters they’ve played in our previous Southern Fried productions.”
