The City of Palm Desert’s final First Weekend of the season is rocking in May with two outdoor concerts and Desert Willow Golf Resort’s 20th Anniversary celebration as the featured events, along with numerous other popular activities for visitors and locals alike to enjoy. 
 
Jump starting the weekend on Thursday, May 4, L.A.vation performs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. as part of Palm Desert Concerts in the Park series at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. L.A.vation is recognized as “The World's Greatest U2 Tribute Band.” The event is free and food will be available for purchase from on-site food trucks. There will also be children’s games and activities prior to the concert beginning at 6 p.m.
 
The other First Weekend finale featured event is Desert Willow Golf Resort’s 20th Anniversary celebration, with golf in the morning and music at night on Sunday, May 7. The first 144 Palm Desert Resident Card holders can golf for free by signing up at www.desertwillow.com, for a 9 a.m. shotgun start. There will be raffle prizes and on-course contests. A free concert from 6 to 9 p.m. is also scheduled and open to the first 500 guests who RSVP to (760) 346-7060. In addition to the music by Dallas and Doll, an L.A.-based band that specializes in Motown and Jazz, guests will enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and desserts created by Desert Willow Executive Chef François Gaertner. Attendees to both the golf and concert can receive a 20-percent discount on pro shop merchandise, and will receive a 20th Anniversary commemorative gift, one per person.
 
Before we say goodbye to First Weekend for another season, this is the perfect opportunity to experience other celebrated First Weekend activities, including El Paseo Art Walk, with a self-guided tour of the galleries on El Paseo, many of which will be holding special receptions; El Paseo Cruise Night showcasing custom and classic cars; and Galen First Friday at Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, The Galen and the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden, with live music, artist talks, and more.
 
The May First Weekend schedule includes:

El Paseo Cruise Night, Friday, May 5, 3 to 6 p.m. 
The cool, shiny, lovingly cared-for classic cars begin arriving around 3:15 p.m. at the upper level of the parking structure behind The Gardens on El Paseo. Get a close-up look at these beauties and talk to the owners before they take over cruising El Paseo from 4 to 6 p.m.

El Paseo Art Walk, Friday, May 5, 4 to 7 p.m.
The renowned El Paseo Art Walk is a self-guided stroll among the numerous art galleries on the famed avenue. Art galleries will feature exhibition openings, artist receptions and more.
 
ArtWalk@Coda, Friday, May 5, 4 to 8 p.m. 
Exhibition opening reception for Allen Zelenski to debut his exhibition, Tin Nation. There will be live acoustic music and a no-host bar featuring wines from Organic Wine Exchange, which will benefit Animal Samaritans – present at the event with their companion canine. 

First Friday at The Galen, Friday, May 5, 4 to 9 p.m.
Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert, 72567 Highway 111 
A free-to-all celebration with live music by Rating Mitual at 7 p.m. in the outdoor Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden. Babe's Bar-B-Que & Brewhouse craft beer will be available for purchase. Docent tours of the current exhibition, Pat Lasch: Journeys of the Heart. 

Cuistot Extended Happy Hour, Friday, May 5, 4 to 9 p.m. 
Accent your First Weekend with Cuistot's extended happy hour. The special hours and prices are available in the bar and veranda. 

Palm Springs Cruisin' Association Car Show, Saturday, May 6, 1 to 5 p.m.
Come join the fun, food, and cars! The event takes place in the parking lot behind Westfield Palm Desert's covered parking structure, $5 entry for cars – spectators free.

Civic Center Park Public Art Tour, Saturday, May 6, 9 to 10 a.m.
Free guided walking tour of the public art collection at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park as part of Palm Desert's inspiring and fun filled weekend of art and culture. Tour begins in front of the Messenger of the Puul statue, located at the south entrance to the park off of Fred Waring.

Sunrise Yoga at Palm Desert Aquatic Center, Sunday, May 7, 7 a.m. 
Join April Jones of Yoga Central La Quinta for Sunrise Yoga at Palm Desert Aquatic Center. $7 per person for this enlightening one-hour class, and all Levels are welcome. 


College of the Desert Street Fair, Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7, 
7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For over 30 years, this premiere open-air shopping experience has been a popular destination for visitors and residents alike! Offering more than 300 booths featuring artists, farmer’s market, boutiques, unique items, live entertainment, gourmet food and more.  Located at College of the Desert, corner of Monterey and Fred Waring.

Story Hour at the Monument, Sunday, May 7, 1 to 2 p.m.
Kids’ Corner offers story time about nature and desert creatures in the National Monument and includes outdoor or craft activities. Story Hour at the Monument takes place at the National Monument Visitors Center. Ages 4 to 8 are welcome with a parent. Space is limited.
Maps and Compass & Basics for Youth, Sunday, May 7, 1 to 2 p.m.
How do you use a map with a compass? Let's have some fun learning by doing at the National Monument Visitor Center. Ages 9 and above, space is limited. 

Paint Nite @ The Hood Bar & Pizza, Sunday, May 7, 2 to 4 p.m.
Join professional artists for a step-by-step fun-filled afternoon adventure where you can unleash your inner Picasso and create your own masterpiece. All materials are provided.
