The valley’s three State and County Certified Farmers’ Markets open for their 2017/2018 Season starting Sunday in La Quinta 10/1, Wednesday in Palm Desert 10/4 and Saturday inPalm Springs 10/7.

A Palm Springs Cultural Center program, the three outdoor Certified Farmers’ Markets have become a must-do for visitors and year-round residents who use the outdoor opening as a seasonal tradition each fall. Paul Palodichuk, General Manager of the Certified Farmers’ Markets noted that February 2018 will be a momentous time in the CFMCV’s history. “We’re coming up on a landmark – one decade of Certified Farmers’ Markets here in the desert.”

Megan Goehring, CV Site Manager and Children’s Nutrition Education Program coordinator reflected with wonder on the past 10 years. “It’s been a privilege to participate in our increasing involvement in the community. But considering the terrific customer response that first day, it’s not too surprising,” she commented, recalling the busy opener almost ten years ago in Palm Springs. Since then the Markets have expanded to five locations three outdoors in the high season and two indoors over the summer months.
More recent developments, including a second summer Market from June through September inside the Westfield Shopping mall, were made possible through expanded partnerships with the city of Palm Desert and Mall management. “We would never be able to provide an economic platform for our small family farms and start up artisan vendors without the generosity of our municipal partners and sponsors.”

Continuing this year, the Markets will curate and present their Sustainability Film Series, showing monthly on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Fogelson Education Classroom in the Palm Springs Art Museum branch gallery in Palm Desert and Saturdays at 9 a.m. at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. The CFM Nutrition Education Program also rolls back into 3rd grade classrooms this fall with a fun and tasty presentation that discusses the economic, nutritional and environmental benefits of eating local produce.
