The Coachella Valley History Museum is marking a major milestone this fall: the 100th anniversary of the historic Smiley‑Tyler Adobe House, the 1926 home built by Dr. Harry and Nell Smiley, Indio’s first permanent doctor and his wife. Standing today as the centerpiece of the museum’s campus, the adobe has witnessed a century of community stories — and from October 3 through November 16, the museum is inviting the public to celebrate with a series of events designed to honor its legacy and bring people together.
The season kicks off with Smiley’s Speakeasy on Saturday, October 3, a 21+ evening that transports guests back to 1926 with jazz, cocktails, and period attire inside the historic home. The next day, families can enjoy the Historic 1926 Smiley‑Tyler House Centennial Fair, a free afternoon of games, entertainment, living history, and a special proclamation from the City of Indio. On October 10, the museum launches its new speaker series, The Medjool Sessions, with a deep dive into the adobe’s history led by local historian Maureen Boren. The celebration concludes on November 16 with a hands‑on Community Flower Arrangement Workshop, inspired by the plants Nell Smiley might have gathered a century ago.
Together, these events offer a meaningful way to connect with local history, enjoy time with neighbors, and experience one of the valley’s most treasured landmarks.
