Ron Oliver Headshot

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce has announced that acclaimed writer and director Ron Oliver will be honored with the 479th star on the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars in the Entertainment category. The unveiling ceremony will take place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at 222 S Palm Canyon Drive, and the public is invited to attend.

Celebrating a Distinguished Career

An Emmy-nominated director, writer, producer, and composer, Ron Oliver first gained recognition with the cult horror classic Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, described by the Los Angeles Times as โ€œthe Blue Velvet of high school horror movies.โ€ Over the years, Oliver has brought his talents to Warner Bros., Universal, Disney, and Fox, creating award-winning films and TV series. His Hallmark Christmas films rank among the highest-rated in the networkโ€™s history, while his Netflix hit Falling for Christmas became the #1 movie worldwide. He also helped make Nickelodeonโ€™s Are You Afraid of the Dark one of the โ€œTop Ten Most Frightening TV Showsโ€ ever made.

A two-time Directors Guild of America nominee, Oliverโ€™s career has spanned continents, from Berlin to Johannesburg to Hollywood, earning him recognition in The New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Heโ€™s also an award-winning author, and in 2018, he received Knighthood from the Sovereign Nation of Sealand.

A Palm Springs Community Advocate

Since moving to Palm Springs in 2003, Oliver has become an integral part of the local community. As a founding Communications Coordinator for the Racquet Club Estates Neighborhood Organization (RCENO), he has raised funds for vital causes, including the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and Vista Del Monte Elementary. A dedicated supporter of the Palm Springs Art Museum and Modernism Week, Oliver has actively championed local arts and culture.

Oliver also has a personal connection to Palm Springs historyโ€”he famously wrote Beethovenโ€™s Treasure Tail while staying at the historic Ingleside Inn, where he later married his husband on Christmas night 2013, with longtime friend and actor Udo Kier officiating.
