Outlandish, a new live performance series, is coming to the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs this fall. The series, produced by Logo TV Founder Matt Farber, will feature performances from four acts iconic in the LGBT community, each of whose appeal has crossed over to a mainstream audience.
Outlandish kicks off on October 28, 2017 with Del Shores “Six Characters In Search Of A Play” an all new show from the Sordid Lives creator; on November 4, it’s an official Palm Springs Prideevent, Miss Richfield 1981 “2020 Vision—A Survival Guide For The New World”; next up is acclaimed storyteller/monologist Coco Peru in “Taming of the Tension” on November 11; and the series concludes with social media superstar and satirist Randy Rainbow “Live!” on November 18 and 19.
Tickets are now on sale for each show at www.OutlandishPS.com.
The Saturday, November 18 Randy Rainbow performance is already sold out, but tickets remain for the Sunday, November 19 performance. A limited amount of “Series Passes” to see all four shows is available at a discounted price.
Sordid Lives creator Del Shores new one-man show, directed by Emerson Collins, proves once again that he is not a writer, he’s a self-proclaimed thief! In “Six Characters In Search Of A Play”, Shores is inspired by Pirandello’s classic play to bring you six characters inspired by his real-life encounters that haven’t quite made it into one of Shores’ plays, films or TV shows. In 90 minutes, the audience
will hear the truth behind how he collected these eccentrics, and then he will portray them in classic Shores’ monologue style. The audience will walk away knowing “Yvonne”, the vegetarian-hating Texas waitress; “Sarah”, an elderly actress who is determined to drink and smoke herself to death if Trump is elected; “Jimmy Ray”, the evolving Georgia redneck, “Loraine”; the once brilliant drama teacher who has lost her damn mind and is now obsessed with porn; “Nathan”, the Nashville florist, Cher-loving super fan who is NOT gay; and “Marsha”, the monkey-hating lesbian with CPOD.
Del Shores has written, directed and produced successfully across studio and independent film,
network and cable television and regional and national touring theatres. Sordid Lives, his fourth play, opened in Los Angeles in 1996 and ran 13 sold-out months. The play went on to win 14 Drama-Logue Theatre Awards, including three for Shores for writing, directing and producing. There have been over 300 additional stage productions of the play. In 1999, Shores wrote and directed the film version of Sordid Lives starring Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia, Leslie Jordan and Beth Grant along with most of the cast from the play. Opening in only eight theatres across the country, the little film that could took in nearly two million dollars in its limited release. The movie became a cult phenomenon and became the longest running film in the history of Palm Springs with a record ninety-six weeks.
Miss Richfield 1981 returns to Palm Springs with her brand-new show, “2020 Vision—A Survival
Guide For The New World”, an official Palm Springs Pride event. The show features Miss
Richfield 1981’s unique take on audience participation along with new songs, new videos, and most importantly, a new message for our new world! During these strange times, Miss R wants to provide a message of hope—or at least survival!
Miss Richfield 1981 dedicates her life to the friendly citizens and responsible merchants of her
hometown – Richfield, MN. Her live performances across the country receive critical acclaim with The New York Post declaring Miss R as “the must-see act in Provincetown” and The Chicago Sun- Times describing her as “Garrison Keillor meets Mary Tyler Moore.” Miss R’s wide appeal includes riotous appearances on “The Tonight Show” & “Today” on NBC, “Cake Boss” on TLC, and “ Watch What Happens Live” on Bravo along with being a national spokesperson for Orbitz and Visit Palm Springs, the Greater Palm Springs Tourism Bureau! Each year her schedule of more than 100 shows sell out theaters and nightclubs across the country, including a summer residence at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA, and frequent tours with Atlantis Events cruise ships and resorts.
Miss Coco Peru has been a little tense lately and one of the things that Coco likes to do when she is tense is invite friends over to her place for tea (and/or cocktails) and a good old-fashioned bullshitting session. In “Taming of the Tension”, Coco is invites you to her “place” for some of her favorite stories, songs, and a good dose of bullshitting with the hope that together the tension will melt away!
And for the first time ever Coco will be taking questions from her audience! So, think of good ones to ask!!!
Storyteller/monologist Miss Coco Peru aka Clinton Leupp got his/her start as a downtown favorite in the cabaret world of NY after he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in his first show “Miss Coco Peru in My Goddamn Cabaret” over 20 years ago. On screen, Miss Coco is best known for her roles in Jim Fall's feature film, Trick (Sundance 1999) and Richard Day's Girls Will Be Girls. (Sundance2002). For this film, Coco shared the Best Actress Award with his two co-stars at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen as well as the Best Actor Award at LA’s Outfest Film Festival. Other film appearances include To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, Nick and Jane; and Straight-Jacket. Coco can be heard in the Disney animated feature The Wild as Mamma Hippo! She also appears in the highly-ish anticipated sequel of Girls Will Be Girls, which will be released someday, hopefully. Coco has appeared on TV in two stand-up comedy specials including LOGO: Wisecrack and Dragtastic, How I Met Your Mother, and Arrested Development. She has been honored to be involved with countless Gay and AIDS related charities over the years including TheTrevor Project, Aid for AIDS, and Lifeworks Mentoring. In fact, the list is so long, the Los AngelesGay and Lesbian Center honored Coco with the Board of Director’s Award.
