The Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast coalition proudly announces that Holly Near, a celebrated singer, activist, and ambassador for peace, will receive the Harvey B. Milk Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s breakfast. The event will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2024, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with coffee and networking beginning at 8:30 AM, followed by the breakfast and program at 9:00 AM.
Known for her 50-year career of bold advocacy and artistry, Holly Near has been a passionate voice for change, integrating global consciousness into her work. From her early acting roles on shows like The Partridge Family and All in the Family, to her groundbreaking songs such as Singing For Our Lives, Near has made a lasting impact on LGBTQ+ and feminist movements. Her dedication to justice and activism continues to inspire communities worldwide.
The breakfast will also honor former California State Senate President Toni Atkins with the Harvey Milk Leadership Award, recognizing her contributions to civic-mindedness and equality. Proceeds from the event benefit LGBTQ+ programs in the Coachella Valley, with around 300 youth attending each year.
Presented by Silvercrest, with support from organizations like the City of Palm Springs and Desert Stonewall Democrats, this event celebrates the legacy of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, and his vision of hope and community empowerment.
