Open Palm Productions, the creative force behind the heartfelt and hilarious Some Kind of Wonderful, is calling on fans and supporters to help bring the full first season—and a newly filmed pilot—to life. After a wildly successful festival run with the original pilot—earning awards and praise from coast to coast—creator Ricky Reidling is ready to take the next big step. This time, it’s not just a reboot… it’s the full evolution.
🍸 The Story
Some Kind of Wonderful follows three longtime gay best friends living in Palm Springs, along with a fourth lead who’s the brother of one of them. It’s a sharply funny and emotionally rich look at friendship, reinvention, and chosen family—all set against the sun-drenched, cocktail-soaked backdrop of the desert we call home.
🎭 The Cast You Love (and Then Some!)
Ricky hopes to bring back much of the original cast featured in the pilot—including Eric Dean, Jeff Marchelletta, Patrick Tatten, and Ricky himself. And joining the ensemble is American Horror Story’s Matthew William Bishop, along with a mix of LGBTQ+ talent and passionate allies. It’s a cast full of chemistry, heart, and plenty of on-screen spark.

Writer/director/actor Ricky Reidling is no stranger to telling authentic, compelling gay stories. His previous work includes the trailblazing LGBTQ+ cable series BoysTown and the feature film Heels. With Some Kind of Wonderful, he’s bringing that same passion—and a whole lot of humor—to a new generation of queer storytelling.
