The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Pathfinder Award by the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), recognizing its transformative Trans* and Gender Expansive Program. This honor celebrates The Center’s commitment to providing affirming spaces, vital resources, and compassionate support for trans and gender diverse individuals and their families throughout the Coachella Valley.

The award will be presented on October 24 during the IGLTA Global Convention, which takes place this year in Palm Springs—bringing together LGBTQ+ travel leaders, advocates, and changemakers from around the world. Learn more about the convention at iglta.org/convention.

The Center’s programming includes support groups for parents and caregivers, educational workshops, social connection opportunities, and guidance for families navigating gender identity journeys. These services foster belonging, reduce isolation, and promote well-being for both residents and visitors.

“This award affirms both the commitment of our staff and the essential role of affirming spaces for trans and gender diverse people and their families,” said The Center CEO Mike Thompson (he/him). “Just as travel builds connections across the broader LGBTQ+ community, our programs strengthen the bonds within our local community.”

IGLTA President/CEO John Tanzella (he/him) added, “We were very intentional in celebrating an exceptional trans and gender diverse program this year. As access to such programs is increasingly under threat, this work matters more than ever.”

The Pathfinder Award is part of the annual IGLTA Honors, spotlighting individuals and organizations that exemplify warmth, hospitality, and inclusivity in their destinations.
