The Plaza Theatre has reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing its annual programming goal of 120 events in just 121 days—an achievement that firmly establishes the historic Palm Springs venue as Southern California’s newest entertainment destination. Since reopening on December 1, 2025, the revitalized 700‑seat downtown theatre, managed by Oak View Group (OVG), has welcomed sold‑out national touring acts, expanded opportunities for local arts organizations, and drawn audiences from across the globe.
The theatre’s rapid success is projected to generate $40 million in annual economic impact and $4 million in annual tax benefit for the City of Palm Springs. Greg O’Dell, President of Venue Management for OVG, praised the accomplishment, noting the theatre’s strong start following its reopening with Cynthia Erivo. John Bolton, SVP & General Manager of OVG / Plaza Theatre, credited the dedication of the venue’s small but highly effective team, as well as the essential support of national event promoter partners—particularly Gehrig Peterson of Media Consultants of Chicago.
In addition to hosting major touring acts, the Plaza Theatre has quickly become a cultural hub for the Coachella Valley’s most beloved arts and community organizations. Regular presenters now include the Palm Springs Symphony, Palm Springs Jazz Festival, Palm Springs Speaks Lecture Series, Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus, Palm Springs Pops Orchestra, Modernism Week, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Film Society of Screwball Comedy, rePLAY Script‑In‑Hand Series, Arts Teach Kids School Day Performance Series, Coachella Valley Classical Voices, Westminster Chorus, Michelle Fiore & Friends, and International Classical Concerts.
J.R. Roberts, President of the Plaza Theatre Foundation Board of Directors, highlighted the venue’s growing global draw, noting that recent sold‑out concerts by The Airborne Toxic Event brought fans from around the world and filled partner hotels throughout Palm Springs. With its rapid ascent and diverse programming, the Plaza Theatre is redefining the cultural landscape of downtown Palm Springs and strengthening the city’s position as a premier destination for live entertainment.
