Jasmine Sullivan-Waits

Palm Springs Pride has announced a major leadership transition with the appointment of Jasmine Sullivan-Waits (she/her) as Executive Director, effective September 1. A longtime advocate and public servant, Sullivan-Waits steps into the role with nearly two decades of experience in city government and event development, including 17 years as a liaison to Palm Springs Pride.

A native of Indio, Sullivan-Waits is widely credited with helping relocate Pride events to downtown Palm Springs in 2014—a move that transformed the festival’s visibility and accessibility. Her leadership was recognized last year with the Spirit of Stonewall Community Leadership Award, honoring her commitment to inclusive public spaces and community engagement.

“My journey to Palm Springs Pride reflects a lifelong dedication to improving the spaces we gather in,” Sullivan-Waits said. “I look forward to centering my work in the human rights arena, fostering growth in the Pride organization, and giving back to the LGBTQ+ community.”

Sullivan-Waits previously served the City of Palm Springs, where she oversaw signature events like the Festival of Lights Parade and the Veterans Day Parade. Her appointment marks a historic moment for the organization, as she becomes only the second woman to hold the Executive Director role since Palm Springs Pride was founded in 1986.

Ron deHarte, who will continue as President and CEO, praised the appointment: “We are proud to have Jasmine lead the organization. The future is undoubtedly in good hands as she advances equality, promotes diversity, and celebrates the strength and talent of our LGBTQ+ community.”

With academic credentials from California State University, San Bernardino—including a Master of Public Administration—Sullivan-Waits brings both strategic insight and heartfelt dedication to her new role. She lives in the Coachella Valley with her partner, Meghan, and their three children.

Her appointment signals a transformative chapter for Palm Springs Pride, one rooted in advocacy, leadership, and a deep connection to the community it serves.
