Flagging in the Desert / Francis Stevens Park

Palm Springs, CA — The silks are ready, the music is queued, and the community is gathering once again for one of Palm Springs’ most colorful traditions: Flagging in the Desert during Pride Weekend! This free, outdoor celebration will take place at Francis Stevens Park on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Flagging in the Desert (FITD) is more than just dance—it’s joy in motion. Originating in San Francisco’s gay clubs in the 1970s, flagging has grown into a cherished flow-art practice combining movement, music, and meditation. Picture vibrant silk flags swirling in rhythm with a live DJ set, creating a kaleidoscope of color and energy against the stunning Palm Springs sky.
This year’s FITD will include a live set from San Francisco DJ Steve Sherwood to keep the beats flowing and the flags flying, plus a free class at 10:30 AM for newcomers to learn basic flagging moves. Flags will be available to borrow, so no experience is needed. The event offers a welcoming, all-ages, pet-friendly environment, so bring your friends, chosen family, and fur babies. As always, the celebration is paired with community giving: donations collected during the event will benefit the Center Food Bank, which provides essential groceries and nutritional support to individuals and families in need throughout the Coachella Valley.
