Palm Springs, CA โ The silks are ready, the music is queued, and the community is gathering once again for one of Palm Springsโ most colorful traditions: Flagging in the Desert during Pride Weekend! This free, outdoor celebration will take place at Francis Stevens Park on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
Flagging in the Desert (FITD) is more than just danceโitโs joy in motion. Originating in San Franciscoโs gay clubs in the 1970s, flagging has grown into a cherished flow-art practice combining movement, music, and meditation. Picture vibrant silk flags swirling in rhythm with a live DJ set, creating a kaleidoscope of color and energy against the stunning Palm Springs sky.
This yearโs FITD will include a live set from San Francisco DJ Steve Sherwood to keep the beats flowing and the flags flying, plus a free class at 10:30 AM for newcomers to learn basic flagging moves. Flags will be available to borrow, so no experience is needed. The event offers a welcoming, all-ages, pet-friendly environment, so bring your friends, chosen family, and fur babies. As always, the celebration is paired with community giving: donations collected during the event will benefit the Center Food Bank, which provides essential groceries and nutritional support to individuals and families in need throughout the Coachella Valley.
Whether youโre an experienced flagger, curious first-timer, or simply want to soak up the beauty of flowing silks and community spirit, FITD is a Pride Weekend highlight not to be missed. Everyone is welcome to dance, watch, or just relax under the palms.
