The Palm Springs Chamber presents Timothy Ray Brown Walk of Stars Dedication on Friday, December1, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The star will be unveiled at the Downtown Park and is open to the public.
Timothy Ray Brown played a pivotal role in advancing HIV cure research, marking a historic achievement as the first person successfully cured of HIV/AIDS. At the 2008 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, where his cure was initially disclosed, he was deliberately given the moniker "The Berlin Patient" to protect his anonymity. Making a pivotal decision, Brown chose to step into the public eye in 2010, a disclosure that sparked global inspiration among researchers to embark on an ambitious HIV cure research agenda, supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Upon relocating to Palm Springs, Brown and his partner, Tim, actively participated in the Let's Kick AIDS Survivor Syndrome social group. Their dedication extended to supporting the HIV & Aging Research Project – Palm Springs, where they held influential roles on the Stakeholders Advisory Board, shaping research agendas and educational programming. Brown consistently engaged in significant HIV research conferences, such as the Palm Springs Symposium on HIV/AIDS and the West Coast Retrovirus Meeting, both attracting leading scientists from the United States and around the world.
In July 2012, Brown announced the establishment of the Timothy Ray Brown Foundation in Washington, D.C., a foundation dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS.
In September 2020, Brown revealed leukemia had returned in 2019 and that he was terminally ill. Brown passed away on September 29th, 2020. He was 54 years old.

Van Zaig Gallery, a new fine art destination in Palm Desert, is excited to announce their opening event on Friday, December 1 from 4 - 7 pm at their new location on El Paseo. The event will take place in conjunction with the monthly First Friday El Paseo ArtWalk celebration.
Van Zaig Gallery’s mission is to celebrate the contemporary art of female artists while leveraging the power of that art to provide visibility and resources to women and children refugees worldwide. Van Zaig Gallery will be donating a portion of all sales to support this essential cause.
The opening event will feature works from owner and Coachella Valley-based artist, Susan Van Zaig, whose "Humanity Series" merges her unique use of color, geometry, and abstraction with representations of the women and children she wishes to support.
Parking is free, and there is a Courtesy Cart available for rides all along the avenue.

Join MAD.KAT Gallery for the opening reception of HOLLYWOOD COOL.
The John R. Hamilton Lost Archive of rarely or never-seen photographs is one of the greatest collections of Hollywood photography. For more than 40 years Hamilton chronicled some 77 movies, photographed 300 magazine covers and shot hundreds of commercials – over 100,000 era-defining images of the most iconic celebrities. There’s a strapping, young Clint Eastwood washing his car, Brigitte Bardot cooling her heels, and steelyeyed Steve McQueen looking right down the lens. Other iconic celebrities included Paul Newman , Elizabeth Taylor, Ann-Margret, Elvis Presley, Kirk Douglas, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis, Jr.
By now, their images are etched into the celluloid psyche of millions of people across multiple genera, ons. But Hamilton managed to capture a different, more intimate side to these stars, all with a certain sense of raw sex appeal.
Fifty-two images from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s Hollywood will be on display in the intimate, 1,200-square-foot gallery, Forty of the photos are modern digital archive prints ranging in size from 11”x14” to 30”x40”. The remaining dozen are original 11”x14” and 16”x20” silver gelatin prints developed by Hamilton himself. Gelatin prints are known for their sharp definition and fine details.
Refreshments will be served.
