Arenas District Pride Flagpole

Creator of the rainbow flag, Gilbert Baker, was recognized in Palm Springs with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
The Arenas District Pride Flagpole is a landmark public art installation and powerful symbol of visibility, unity, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Officially dedicated in October 2025 during a vibrant Flag Raising Block Party, the flagpole now flies the iconic rainbow flag designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978—an enduring emblem of LGBTQ+ liberation and pride.
Located at the gateway to the Arenas Business District, Palm Springs’ first certified business district, the flagpole was approved by the Palm Springs City Council and developed through a partnership between Palm Springs Pride and the Arenas District Merchants. The project honors the legacy of LGBTQ+ activists and celebrates 40 years of Pride in Palm Springs.
In addition to the rainbow flag, the installation may also display the Transgender Pride flag, Leather Pride flag, Bisexual Pride flag, California state flag, and the U.S. flag on national observances. The site is expected to serve as a focal point for future Pride celebrations, civic ceremonies, and community gatherings—standing tall as a daily reminder of Palm Springs’ commitment to inclusion and equality.
