TakeMeHome™ is breaking barriers in health care by offering a free and confidential HIV and STI self-testing program available nationwide, including Puerto Rico. In partnership with Emory University, OraSure Technologies, NASTAD, and Signal, this innovative initiative provides everyone aged 17 and older with access to essential self-testing resources, ensuring that testing is secure, discreet, and accessible from the comfort of home.
The program not only offers HIV self-testing but has also expanded to include STI testing, PrEP labs, and the first in-home rapid syphilis tests in participating areas. Designed to reach underserved communities, TakeMeHome™ focuses on men who have sex with men (MSM), trans and non-binary individuals using dating apps, and others facing barriers to traditional testing. It also supports cisgender women of color, disabled individuals, sex workers, unhoused individuals, and people who inject drugs. Offered in English and Spanish, the program addresses critical gaps in health equity.
Why self-testing matters: Research shows that 1/3 of TakeMeHome™ users have never tested for HIV or STIs before, making this program a vital resource for those who might otherwise go untested. Endorsed by individuals who face challenges accessing on-site testing, self-testing has proven to be a practical and empowering health strategy.
Recent advancements include a partnership with Grindr for international access to self-tests, the expansion of the age range for OraQuick HIV self-tests to include individuals as young as 14, and an endorsement by the CDC in its June 2024 report on innovative health programs.
TakeMeHome™ continues to transform health care accessibility and empower individuals to prioritize their sexual health. For more updates, follow their social channels on Instagram and TikTok. Join the movement and take charge of your health today!
